The World Cow (Marc)

This work is a cosmogonic and pantheistic vision. A huge red cow, the “World Cow”, dominates the composition. She is a kind of mother goddess, a creative force of nature. Her monumental body extends over a Cubist and fragmented landscape, and even seems to contain other life forms, like the small white calf on her flank. Around her, the world is deconstructed into planes of color: mountains, water, vegetation, and other animals participate in this great symbolic fresco. It is a complex work that expresses Marc’s vision of a universe where all life is interconnected, where the feminine principle (the red cow) is the source of all things. It is a painted meditation on creation myths and the place of the animal at the center of the cosmos.
