The Virgin and Child Enthroned by Sandro Botticelli

The Virgin Mary is seated on a sculpted marble throne in the center of the scene. She is dressed in a red robe and a blue cloak, holding the Infant Jesus on her knees. The newborn, entirely naked and haloed with light, raises a playful arm towards her. On either side stand two major saints. Saint John the Baptist stands on the left in wild beast skin. Saint John the Evangelist stands on the right, holding an open book. In the background, a dense hedge of olive trees and white lilies forms a niche of lush greenery under a blue sky.
