The sin 3 (Stuck)

In this new iteration of his masterpiece, “The sin 3”, Franz von Stuck explores an even more stifling chiaroscuro. The model with ebony hair is depicted in three-quarters profile, her blindingly pale skin radiating from the center of the canvas. Unlike other versions, she seems to lean languorously on an imposing cubic block, draped in blood-red fabric that contrasts violently with the darkness of the room. The huge black snake literally suffocates the young woman’s body, its pernicious head nesting tenderly against her neck. This vertical version in a classic “portrait” format is a striking study of the carnal alliance between bestial danger and seduction.
