Teasing by Franz von Stuck

This work is fully part of the German symbolism movement and the academic art of the late nineteenth century. A soft light passes through the dense foliage, delicately illuminating the boy’s back and the wild grass in the background. This game of hide-and-seek creates an intimate and mysterious atmosphere in the heart of the woods.

The artist demonstrates a remarkable pictorial mastery in the realistic treatment of the textures of the bark and leaves.
