Portrait of Edmond Duranty by Degas

Plunging the viewer into the heart of the nineteenth-century intellectual world, the realist artist Degas Edgar painted the portrait of one of his closest literary companions in the famous canvas entitled “Portrait of Edmond Duranty”. In the foreground, on the left of the composition, a book with a sky-blue cover and a dark glass inkwell stand out. On the right of the table, a tall stack of white sheets of paper is placed. The background is filled with immense wooden bookshelves.
