This masterpiece of unequaled subtlety, painted by the famous artist Sandro Botticelli, is a jewel of the Florentine Renaissance. Temporarily entitled “Madonna of the Magnificat*”, this sacred scene illustrates a moment of divine writing of major theological importance for Christian piety. The composition focuses on the intertwined hands of the sacred figures placed on the open pages of a large book. On the right white page, the first Latin words calligraphed in black ink stand out with remarkable clarity. On the left, another fine and neat masculine hand supports a dark metal inkwell, providing the necessary stability for the sacred gesture. The sleeves in vermilion red fabric and golden brocade create a warm contrast with the whiteness of the vellum.
