“Keys” is a painting from Fernand Léger’s Purist period. The work is a highly controlled abstract composition on a neutral gray background. Léger arranges distinct forms: a large orange biomorphic shape on the left, a green organic shape on the right, and a black and white mechanical structure in the center. Two gray keys hang from this structure, giving the painting its title. Flowing black lines and dot patterns add a graphic rhythm. Léger treats all elements as “type-objects”, creating a perfect balance and visual harmony.
