One of Wegener’s most sensual works. A nude woman, seen from behind, sits in a Louis XV style armchair upholstered in red floral fabric. She holds an open fan decorated with a gallant scene, partially hiding or cooling herself. Her blonde hair is cut short. The curve of her back, the whiteness of her skin, and the languid pose evoke the stifling heat of a summer afternoon. Through the blue shutters in the background, one can guess the light outside. The contrast between the busy patterns of the armchair and the purity of the bare skin creates a magnificent visual tension. It is an ode to voluptuousness and intimacy.
