This admirable pastel on paper, an emblematic work by the great realist painter Degas Edgar, is provisionally entitled “Dancer with a Bouquet of Flowers 1” and testifies to the artist’s virtuosity within the Impressionist movement. The work captures the fleeting triumph of a ballerina taking applause at the end of her performance on stage, a brief moment combining the grace of the show and body fatigue.

The lead dancer, dressed in a vaporous tutu of a delicate powder pink, leaps forward with her arms wide open in a bow of victory.
