Abstraction (Juan Gris)

A bold cubist composition where Juan Gris pushes the limits of representation. We can guess the elements of a still life - perhaps a glass, a newspaper - but the artist has transformed them into a play of pure forms and textures. The planes of color (blue, green, black) intersect with polka dot patterns and fragments of typography, creating a captivating visual rhythm. Gris uses the paper-cut technique here, or at least imitates it with paint, to blur the boundaries between the real and the represented. The light seems to emanate from within the canvas, sculpting the forms and giving life to this "abstraction" which is yet so anchored in the tangible.
