A Breton Sunday by Paul Sérusier

Within the Synthetist movement and the Pont-Aven School, the painter Paul Sérusier develops a sacred vision of popular Armorican traditions. At the bottom left, a figure seen from behind wears a bright ochre shawl, bringing a singular note of light. To the right, the profile of a stone chapel with pointed arch windows dominates the assembly. Flat areas of green and compacted earth structure the landscape with exemplary restraint.
