Medieval art in the custom oil paintings of Jean Fouquet

A hand painted copy with oil on cotton canvas for your elegant and beautiful home interior decor

Fouquet Jean
A central figure of the artistic revival in France, Jean Fouquet is an illuminator and court painter whose work marks the end of the Middle Ages and the beginnings of the Renaissance. Alternately serving Charles VII and Louis XI, this French artist assimilated Italian visual innovations while maintaining the Northern European tradition. His career reflects an aesthetic mutation where the sacred begins to intertwine with humanist realism.

Fouquet's aesthetic relies on rigorous geometry, mastered perspective, and sculptural modeling of faces. His virtuoso technique is expressed as much in the meticulousness of his illuminations as in the scale of his panel paintings. He uses a bold palette, frequently contrasting deep reds and lapis lazuli blues, while enveloping his figures in a clear and cold light. The famous “Melun Diptych” perfectly illustrates this alliance between idealized abstraction and naturalistic observation. In the field of portraiture, as illustrated by his “Portrait of Guillaume Jouvenel des Ursins”, he manages to capture the psychological authority of his models. His illuminated manuscripts, such as the “Coronation of Charlemagne”, also reveal a prodigious attention paid to architectural decors.

His role is fundamental in defining an autonomous French school, capable of synthesizing Flemish realism and Italian spatiality. Long unrecognized after his death, his catalog was reconstructed in the nineteenth century, placing him in the pantheon of the initiators of the Renaissance in Europe.
Rediscover the visual splendor of the fifteenth century through a meticulous handmade copy. Each custom painting draws inspiration from Fouquet's genius to bring a touch of history and refinement to your interior design.
