Mystical mannerism in the oil paintings of El Greco

A magnificent copy painted entirely by hand on canvas to beautifully decorate your home walls

El Greco
An architect, sculptor, and painter of Cretan origin, Doménikos Theotokópoulos established himself as the central figure of Spanish Mannerism. Trained in the Byzantine tradition before traveling to Venice and then Rome, he eventually settled permanently in Toledo. His art reflects the religious fervor of Counter-Reformation Spain, offering a mystical vision of the world that radically breaks with the classical naturalism of the Renaissance.

The artist's aesthetic is defined by ethereal figures, whose anatomical elongation creates a palpable spiritual tension. His chromatic palette proves bold, juxtaposing acid tones, metallic greens, and sulfurous yellows. He constructs his canvases on ascending compositions, punctuated by dazzling lightings that tear through space. The painting “The Burial of Count Orgaz” synthesizes this duality between the detailed earthly world and the swirling celestial dimension. This hallucinated vision is reflected in his approach to landscape with “View of Toledo”, a stormy and dramatic representation. Similarly, the composition of “The Holy Trinity” highlights the Mannerist influence reinterpreted by an incandescent fervor.

Misunderstood by his contemporaries after his passing, his visionary work was rehabilitated by the Romantics and then by twentieth-century avant-gardes. His expressive treatment of form and color greatly participates in the evolution of painting towards modern Expressionism.
Bring a mystical dimension to your interior by acquiring a hand-painted painting by El Greco. Each famous painting reproduction captures the chromatic bursts and spiritual power of his masterful compositions.
