The Grand Canal from San Vio 2 by Canaletto

The canal unfolds in a deep perspective, flanked on the left by the imposing mass of patrician palaces with beautifully drawn gothic windows. On the right bank, a tall plaster dwelling shows a curious resident leaning out of their open window. In the center of the lagoon, imposing dark wood transport boats are moored, their vertical masts rising toward the cloudy sky. Slender black gondolas glide on the calm, deep green waters where the facades of the buildings are reflected.
