The famous masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance is transposed with biting and fierce humor in this parodic oil painting. Entitled “Last Supper of Moe’s Tavern”, this unique composition boldly revisits the sacred mural by Leonardo da Vinci. The artist replaces biblical solemnity with the secular, beer-filled and crazy conviviality of a place well known to cartoon fans. Homer Simpson occupies the central position, mimicking Christ’s posture in a simple white shirt. Around him, regular patrons like Barney Gumble, Carl Carlson, Lenny Leonard, and Moe the bartender are arranged to embody the apostles. Rather than the traditional bread and wine, each character holds tightly a large mug of Duff beer. Moe is seen holding a white cleaning rag behind the counter. This comic contrast is emphasized by the expressive, yellow faces of the cartoon characters.
