This work is a total immersion into the lush and fantasized jungle universe of Henri Rousseau. The canvas is entirely saturated with dense vegetation, where each leaf is drawn with goldsmith-like precision, creating a complex and invasive decorative pattern. The different shades of green, from the lightest to the darkest, build the depth and mystery of this impenetrable forest. Hidden in this vegetal maze, two lions on the prowl watch the viewer or an unseen prey. Their fixed eyes add a palpable tension to the scene. Rousseau, who never left France, painted his jungles inspired by the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and illustrated stories. This distance from reality allowed him to create a dreamlike world, both wonderful and unsettling, where wild nature reigns supreme.
